GMI Cloud has announced plans to build a major new Artificial Intelligence (AI) data centre in Taiwan, representing a US$500 million investment in the region’s cloud and AI infrastructure. The facility is being constructed with the explicit purpose of handling high-density AI workloads, a strategic necessity given the exponential global demand for processing power required by large language models and advanced AI applications. The new data centre will be powered by chips from Nvidia, the market leader in high-performance Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). The facility’s core capacity will consist of approximately 7,000 GPUs distributed across 96 high-density racks. With construction already underway, the data centre is scheduled to go online by March 2026.
