Leica has officially unveiled the Q3 Monochrom camera, the second dedicated black-and-white model in its acclaimed Q-series, reinforcing the brand’s focus on pure monochrome photography. The camera is built around a newly developed 60-megapixel full-frame monochrome sensor that lacks a color filter array, ensuring every pixel captures only luminance data. This design delivers superior clarity, exceptional tonal depth, and a higher dynamic range compared to standard sensors converting color files to black and white, making it ideal for street, documentary, and artistic photography.
The Q3 Monochrom incorporates Leica’s Triple Resolution Technology, allowing photographers to select output resolutions of 60, 36, or 18 megapixels depending on their needs. Its low-light performance is a major technical highlight, featuring a high ISO range from 100 to 200,000, enabling clean, low-noise results even in challenging lighting conditions. The camera retains the series’ fixed Leica Summilux 28 mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens and gains the enhanced hybrid autofocus system and tilting touchscreen from the color Q3 model. The Q3 Monochrom supports video recording up to 8K resolution and is the first Q-series camera to implement Content Credentials technology, which embeds a tamper-proof digital signature into every image file to verify its origin and authenticity. The camera features a minimalist, all-metal black design, deliberately omitting the iconic red Leica logo, and is available globally from November 20, 2025, retailing at $7,790 USD.
