Accenture Highlights AI as the Future of Telecom at MWC 2025

AI is taking center stage in the transformation of the telecommunications industry, as highlighted by Accenture at MWC Barcelona 2025. The company is emphasizing AI’s role in enhancing network operations, customer experience, and software engineering for telcos.

AI’s Expanding Role in Telecom

Francesco Venturini, Senior Managing Director at Accenture, shared insights into how AI is revolutionizing the telecom sector. He introduced a newly launched report in collaboration with the World Economic Forum that explores AI’s transformative impact.

“The report was extremely well received,” Venturini stated. “AI is a big area of focus.”

At MWC, Accenture is showcasing AI’s influence in three core areas:

  1. AI in Network Operations – Optimizing network deployment and maintenance.
  2. AI in Customer Experience – Enhancing customer service, marketing, and sales strategies.
  3. AI in Software Engineering – Accelerating software development and lifecycle management.

“These are the big three areas where we have interesting demos and have received significant attention from our clients,” Venturini explained.

A Holistic Approach to AI Adoption

Accenture’s AI strategy extends beyond technology implementation, focusing on process reengineering, AI architecture, security, and workforce development.

“Our consulting heritage helps us rethink processes and operating models to leverage automation driven by AI,” Venturini said. “Understanding enterprise AI architecture—whether cloud-based or on-prem—and addressing security concerns is crucial.”

He also stressed the importance of building AI-related talent and skills: “We need to recognize that we are not the generation born with AI, and it will take years before we see the first AI-native generation enter the workforce.”

Telcos as AI Adopters and Enablers

Telecommunications companies have been among the earliest adopters of AI, shifting from pilot projects to large-scale deployment. Venturini highlighted their dual role: adopting AI in their own operations while also facilitating AI adoption for enterprises by providing critical connectivity and infrastructure.

“If you pay attention at MWC this year, the atmosphere is positive, almost optimistic,” Venturini observed. “Telcos are crucial in driving AI adoption, both within their own networks and for the broader economy.”

MWC: A Reflection of the Industry’s Evolution

MWC has evolved from a telecom-focused trade show to a platform discussing the broader business impact of technology.

“The conversation has moved towards the role of technology beyond just telecom,” Venturini noted. “While telco remains the foundation, AI-powered connectivity solutions are now relevant across industries.”

With AI reshaping network operations, customer engagement, and software development, the telecom industry is on the brink of a significant transformation. Accenture’s insights from MWC 2025 highlight how AI is no longer an emerging trend—it is the foundation of the future of telecom.
