Magic Eden’s highly anticipated ME token faced a turbulent debut, experiencing a sharp decline in value following its airdrop on December 10. The token launched at $6.70, briefly spiking to $13.10, before plummeting as much as 67% to a low of $4.30. At the time of publication, the price had rebounded slightly to $8.60.
The issues surrounding the ME token’s debut were primarily related to its claiming process, which many users found frustrating and complicated. The process required users to download the Magic Eden mobile app, scan a QR code from a desktop device, and link their eligible wallets to claim their tokens. However, users reported several problems, including a buggy mobile app that was difficult to navigate and a website that suffered from downtime due to high traffic.
A wave of dissatisfaction spread across social media as users expressed their frustration with the process. One user described the app as “stuck” and the process as “complicated,” while others were confused about whether the tokens could only be claimed on mobile or if the desktop version was also supported.
These issues were exacerbated by complaints about the ME token’s price fluctuations. While some users initially saw the value of their tokens rise after the airdrop, the price quickly dropped as complaints mounted. Magic Eden addressed the concerns by notifying users about the resolution of the issues several hours after the airdrop went live.
