Capcom Unveils Mind-Bending Lunar Sci-Fi Action in Pragmata: Hacking, Combat, and Mystery Collide

A Fresh Look at Pragmata: Lunar Combat Meets Real-Time Hacking

At the recent Capcom Spotlight Showcase 2025, the Japanese gaming giant finally revealed fresh gameplay footage of its upcoming sci-fi action adventure, Pragmata. Set on the desolate surface of the Moon, this futuristic title blends third-person combat, real-time hacking mechanics, and a compelling narrative about two unlikely allies: astronaut Hugh Williams and the mysterious android, Diana.

Gamers finally got a taste of the gameplay rhythm, and one thing is crystal clear — Pragmata isn’t just another space shooter. Strategic thinking, emotional storytelling, and sci-fi survival mechanics are all baked into this lunar odyssey.

Diana and Hugh: A Dynamic Duo at the Heart of the Story

What separates Pragmata from other action games is the evolving relationship between its two protagonists. Hugh, a good-natured, occasionally sarcastic astronaut, is rescued by Diana after a devastating moonquake isolates him at the abandoned Delphi research base. The base, once a hub for 3D printing innovation, now serves as a battleground haunted by hostile AI and combat-ready robots.

Capcom draws parallels to the atmospheric world-building of titles like Death Stranding, but puts a more intimate spin on its characters. Diana, an advanced android, is not just a companion — she’s essential to unraveling both the mystery of the base and the larger plotline involving AI experimentation.

Combat Requires Brains and Reflexes

Unlike traditional shooters where a bullet always does the job, Pragmata challenges players to first hack enemy defenses before engaging. Each encounter becomes a tense game of cat and mouse, requiring you to:

  • Connect green nodes on a 5×5 grid,
  • Avoid digital traps while gathering blue nodes,
  • All in real time, while enemies are closing in.

Only after successfully breaching the enemy’s armor can Hugh take aim and unleash firepower. These hacking moments raise the stakes and demand rapid decision-making, especially when multiple enemies are surrounding you.

Wccftech, who previewed the hands-on demo, praised the intuitive hacking system and the smooth transition between combat and puzzle-solving. “It’s fast, fluid, and adds a real sense of urgency to every battle,” their review noted.

Platforming, Exploration, and High-Flying Maneuvers

Besides intense hacking and firefights, Pragmata also integrates platforming segments where Hugh uses jet engines for quick maneuvers across the moon station. From dodging enemy attacks to solving traversal puzzles, movement is fluid and purpose-built to keep the player engaged at every moment.

You’ll find yourself weaving through debris-filled corridors, leaping between platforms, and darting around enemies in zero-gravity spaces. The environment feels alive and hostile — perfectly reinforcing the theme of isolation and survival in deep space.

What About a Release Date?

Capcom has not confirmed a specific release date yet, but Pragmata is still scheduled for 2026. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. Fans hungry for more won’t have to wait long — the Gamescom 2025 showcase, running from August 20–24, will include demo information and likely more footage.

A Glimpse at Capcom’s Broader Sci-Fi Ambitions

In addition to Pragmata, Capcom used the Spotlight Showcase to tease new details about Resident Evil 9, set three decades after the destruction of Raccoon City. But Pragmata clearly aims to carve out its own space — quite literally — in the world of sci-fi storytelling.

Conclusion: Pragmata Might Be Capcom’s Most Ambitious Sci-Fi Game Yet

With a haunting lunar setting, a deep emotional core, and innovative gameplay mechanics, Pragmata is shaping up to be one of Capcom’s boldest projects to date. The game asks players to think, react, and connect — both emotionally and strategically. If the final release delivers on the promise seen in the 2025 showcase, Pragmata could become a landmark title in the genre of sci-fi action games.
