Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially launched SheBuilds ML, a significant new global initiative dedicated to addressing the gender gap in advanced technology by upskilling 10,000 women in machine learning (ML). The program will operate across 20 countries, strategically focusing on key emerging markets including India, Brazil, Indonesia, and South Africa. The core curriculum of the initiative emphasizes practical ML deployment, training participants to effectively utilize industry-leading AWS tools such as SageMaker, the generative AI platform Bedrock, and various serverless AI pipelines for efficient, real-world application building.
Participants are required to complete an intensive 12-week virtual bootcamp, which is taught and supported by leading technology instructors. Following the theoretical component, the program transitions into practical, real-world project labs, giving participants hands-on experience in high-impact domains such as healthcare analytics, retail automation, and sustainability solutions. This practical focus is designed to ensure participants are job-ready upon completion.
AWS’s overarching goal for SheBuilds ML is twofold: to directly help close the rapidly widening global ML talent gap and to provide a structured pathway for mid-career women to successfully transition into highly sought-after AI and ML engineering roles. By focusing on both emerging markets and practical skills, the program aims to cultivate a more diverse and skilled global workforce necessary for the next wave of technological innovation.
